Considering whether to work for Postmates?
Postmates is a company that offers delivery of food and other goods across the U.S.
In order to deliver on time and keep up with growing demand, they are always hiring new couriers.
Even if you have a full-time job, as I do, this is a good side hustle to make extra money each month.
The key benefit that makes it work with my normal 9-5 job is that Postmates allows you the flexibility to choose the time you want to start work as well as the time that you’re ready to call it a day.
Basically, you are you own boss!
As the saying goes, “You have to crawl before you can walk.” This is true for the work for Postmates side hustle as with many things in life.
I won’t sit here and tell you that it will be easy because success will take hard work, especially in the beginning. There will be some stumbling, tripping here and there, and bumps in the road while you are getting the hang of everything.
The most important thing is DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED. Sooner or later you will find a way to adapt to working in this new environment.
Here’s some good news: getting started is a breeze! In a nutshell here are the basic steps:
Sounds too good to be true?
Well, it is true. So true in fact that I have even received referral bonuses just for showing people how easy it is to get started doing a side hustle like this.
My number one tip is choosing the navigation maps that you are most comfortable with and accustomed to using.
Before you start your first delivery, go to the settings on your Postmates app and choose your preferred navigation option to help you find and locate the pick-up and drop-off locations. I personally prefer Google Maps because I feel that the app gives me a more accurate location around commercial and apartment complexes while on satellite view.
Time is money when you work for Postmates, so the more efficient you can be with your time the better. This is especially true when Postmates offers special delivery bonuses during certain times of the day.
Obviously the more deliveries you complete the more money you make, right?
Well, yes and no.
This platform allows customers to tip their courier in the app. There are no guarantees that you will earn a tip, but there are things you can do to increase your chances of your customer throwing in a little extra cash for excellent service.
The question is, how can you maximize your chances of getting a tip for each delivery?
In my experience, these helpful tools and best practices have given me the most positive results:
You can order one from the Postmates app store at a fairly reasonable price. Think of it as an investment for better results. Most customers will appreciate seeing that you intended to deliver their food at the right temperature. This shows that you are serious about your job.
When you work for Postmates, wearing the proper attire makes a huge difference in how you are perceived by customers. The Postmates gear helps you to project that you are working for a legitimate business anytime you enter a building or ring a door bell at a customer’s doorstep.
Since you are your own boss, take on that feeling of ownership in your business and confidently state, “Yes, I am Postmates”, without even saying a word.
Some customers might make a special request on a delivery order, or feel the need to give additional delivery instructions.
Whatever the case may be, it is our job to listen to the customer and respond appropriately. We all hate it whenever a fast food place gets our order wrong, and you are the last line of defense in making sure that your customer is happy.
Additionally, you might be given delivery instructions such as a gate code or a specific place to drop off the goods. While the customer might blame the restaurant for an incorrect order, failing to deliver as instructed is completely on you.
Here are some tips to make sure your communication game is sharp:
The first thing to look for. Always.
The number of items on the order should match the number picked up and dropped off at the end.
If a pick up is taking way too long, inform the customer of the status and reason for the delay. A simple text goes a long way in customer service.
If a customer reaches out, respond as soon as you can. If anyone takes the time to reach out it’s always good manners and great customer service to let the customer know you acknowledge any messages or requests.
During these challenging times, the demand for delivery services is higher than usual. This presents great opportunity to earn extra money while helping others at the same time.
Do not get discouraged if any given day does not go your way. I personally have had days where I only completed a few deliveries, as well as days when the app would not stop sending new delivery notifications.
When you work for Postmates (or any new job really), getting started can be intimidating at first, but it can be rewarding for those who work at it. As I mentioned earlier, learn to “crawl before you walk”.
I hope this information helps you along your journey.
Best of luck, be safe and be prosperous!
